Facilitating Sustainable business investment in dubbo

Dubbo City Development Corporation Limited ("DCDC") provides, through its appointed Board of directors, leadership and direction to job creation, investment growth and business attraction for the City of Dubbo and the Orana region. It has a current strategy relating to its core business activity and the performance of DCDC is measurable, accountable, and underpinned by specific Key Performance Indicators ("KPIs") provided in colaboration with key economic development stakeholders such as the Developers and Investors Forum Dubbo Inc. (DIFD), Real Estate Institute (REI) - Orana, Dubbo Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc (DCCI) and the Dubbo Rural & Suburban Residents & Ratepayers Association Inc (DRSRRA). Between these key organisations, the DCDC has identified the need to continue to proactively seek out business investment for business communities and residents of both the Dubbo LGA and Orana region.

DCDC is a public company, limited by guarantee, that was registered back in 1994 to act as an independant economic development corporation that facilitates business investment on behalf of the City of Dubbo. The DCDC has a strong corporate governance culture and is governed by the Corporations Act 2001 (Commonwealth) incorporating an independent Board of Directors comprising of up to nine (9) autonomous people of diverse private and public sector backgrounds, qualifications and experience who have kindly volunteered their valuable time to assist the DCDC and Dubbo in achieving its goals and objectives. Directors represent  key economic development sectors in the Dubbo Local Government Area ("LGA") and, as such, provide valuable insight from their respective industries at Board meetings and informal meetings during their tenure as Board directors.

The DCDC has been funded solely by the Dubbo City Council to provide economic development services on behalf of the Dubbo City Council but now provides a larger range of economic development services independently from the Dubbo City Council on behalf of the business community of the Dubbo LGA and the Orana region. The DCDC intends to continue working collaboratively with key economic development stakeholders including the Dubbo City Council but will continue to focus on what is needed and required to grow the City of Dubbo`s suite of products and services to remain competitive as the premier service hub of Western NSW especially for industry sectors such as  the emerging Mining & Resource sector.

On most occasions, the DCDC is compelled to enter into Non-Disclosure Agreements ("NDAs") with potential businesses looking at opening their operations in Dubbo either through expansion, relocation or start-up. Majority of the businesses dealing with DCDC have a point-of-difference and insist  there is a level of 'comercial-in-confidence' during the facilitation process which could be anywhere from 6-months to 3-5 years depending on the business opportunity.

Due to the emergence of the Mining & Resource sector in our region, within a 100 km radius of Dubbo, DCDC has taken the initiative to establish itself as the facilitator for products, services and skilled/non-skilled labour to support the three (3) mining projects anticipated to commence within the next 18-24 months. It is DCDC`s view that, based on the experiences from other regional cities and towns within a 300 km radius of Dubbo, Dubbo needs to learn from these cities and towns who have experienced significant growth through the mining and resource sector and proactively prepare itself to identify 'gap' products, services and skills required to support these mining projects as the premier service hub Dubbo really is in Western NSW.
